"Lignocaine infusion discontinued"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Pain Management

(as the patient),

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful the problem I have is that this will be my last infusion because apparently there is zero evidence it works. I am very upset to hear this as these infusions are the only thing that helps the pain in my hands and feet so I am now dreading it when the intense pain starts again as I now know that I can't have the one thing that helps. I have fibromyalgia and I'm in pain 24/7 in varying degrees and with the infusions I can function near to normal so I do not understand how there can be zero evidence if they help me and others I know.

We are delighted to hear that you got on well with our staff at the time of your infusion.

Unfortunately the service at Lincoln has had many changes in the last 6 months including no longer being able to perform procedures there.

The information of being limited evidence for the lignocaine infusions is true however this is not the reason that we are no longer doing them at Lincoln, it is because we do not have a location for them to be done.

As part of ULHT we are still performing lignocaine infusions at Pilgrim Hospital in Boston, however there is a large waiting list for these currently.

You are more than welcome to contact us through our PALS service to have a look at getting your care transferred over to Pilgrim Hospital.

Thanks,

Update posted by Sazzle (the patient)

Travelling to Boston is not feasible as I have full time care of my young grandchild so that would mean a babysitter for a whole day and I also cannot drive for 24 hours after an infusion which would mean someone having to take time out of work to take me,wait for me then bring me home. When I have them at Lincoln it's 2 hours at most so it is easier to make arrangements for both my grandchild and a lift to and from the hospital.
