“You would never know this little peanut just spent two nights in the hospital with viral-induced wheezing, which isn’t quite asthma, but requires the same treatment plan: nebuliser with salbutamol/albuterol, nebuliser with a drug even stronger than salbutamol, oxygen mask to bring O2 levels back to normal, steroids, an inhaler to take home, and constant monitoring through the day and night. The children’s hospital staff really are brilliant. My partner and I couldn’t thank them enough for all of the care and competence they showed, not just to my daughter, but to us as well — especially the nurses. They brought my daughter toys to play with, food and drink whenever she needed it (and even Wotsits for dinner and ice cream for lunch, if it meant she would eat it). They said “Hiya” back to her, every single time she walked past them in the halls to pass the hours (and that was lot...). They let my older daughter have a shot of the stethoscope when we checked my daughter in, and made a big sister feel very responsible and important. They brought my partner and me blankets, cups of coffee, and toast when we spent the night with our baby, so that we could be a little more comfortable. They answered questions when they popped into our heads, long after the doctors had to move on to their other patients. They explained every single thing clearly: why she needed an oxygen mask, what levels she needed to maintain on her own, why the machine monitoring her was beeping again.Every single nurse, doctor, and EMT who had to work with us over the weekend was incredibly kind and patient, and they were all brilliant with a stressed-out baby, who was buzzing on the asthma drugs, and had no intention of sitting still. The NHS gets a lot of complaints sent in its direction, but my partner and I have nothing but praise for the RACH and the Archie charity that supports it. ❤️“
