I am a 65 year old male pensioner and was booked in for a CT scan of my colon on 16th July. I had followed the diet instructions to cleanse my bowel except I had 4 asparagus spears from a tin to supplement a meal the night before the scan. Tinned vegetables are permitted by most healthcare trusts and asparagus is particularly recommended.
I also had a day off of work for the procedure to be carried out. I was informed that the scan would not be going ahead because of the asparagus as the results would be compromised.
To say I was unhappy is an understatement and to my shame I swore within the context of the comments I made about the refusal to carry out the scan. The radiographer reported my behaviour as inappropriate and I cannot visit that department again.
The staff were not aware of the issues in my life at the time - life limiting cancer, blind in one eye, internal cardioverter defibrillator fitted after a heart attack, diabetes but that was no excuse for my comments.
I regret my actions and am sorry that following an apology the response was further sanctions. I have no problems with the staff - they were just doing their job but I do feel a witch hunt is being waged against me.
"Waste of time due to non procedure"
