My little family have been through the mill this last 18 months. My husband died suddenly and my children were in shock as was I.
We had a very traumatic coroners inquest which tipped my youngest son over the edge and he attempted suicide. My worst nightmare. I had to ring 999 and attend ED with my child. We attended ED at stepping hill, I was frightened, overwhelmed and extremely worried. I do know staff in ED and thought maybe there may be some judgmental looks but there were none.
My son was treated and I was treated also, with compassion, empathy and love. The staff treated me like a mum and not a nurse, my son was moved to a quieter area (CDU) so I could lie in the bed with him. My son is a teenager yet looked so tiny in the bed. My son was seen by the RAID team who were very supportive and have put lots of support in place, he is still attending therapy at Stepping Hill and the ED Matron Charlotte always makes a point of saying Hello to him when she sees him.
This is the care you want, this is the care you need, this is the care we got. I was so very impressed with ED, on the worst night of my life.
"Worst night of my life."
