"Good manners are paramount on the front desk"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Maternity

(as a relative),

Alexandra Wing

We were visiting our son/daughter in law who had given birth that morning. We asked the receptionist if they could direct us to the Birthing Pools.

The response was very abrupt and deliberately sarcastic.

“I’m sorry, are you about to give birth? Nine months pregnant.....what?”

I explained I was visiting.

This was an awful first impression. They were very unprofessional.

Perhaps I should have explained I was visiting and needed directions but under no circumstances should their response been so poor. Good manners are paramount when on the front desk... be it as an employee or volunteer.  With many patients entering the hospital,  I feel this receptionist needs further training. One unhappy visitor/patient is enough, making this an unpleasant visit before any treatment.

Dear Phoenixtc48,

Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry for the delay in responding to you. My name is Charlotte Chapman and I am the Manager for Reception Services.

It was very disappointing to read your comments regarding the service you received whilst visiting Maternity Reception. We expect the receptionists to deliver a high standard of customer care to all patients and visitors so I am sorry this was not the experience you received.

I would be happy to look into this further for you if you would like to contact me directly through Reception Services.

Best Wishes

Charlotte Chapman
