I would like to commend Peterborough hospital and the NHS from beginning to end. I came in on Friday evening with symptoms of an infection having had a hysterectomy at a hospital in London two days prior. The out of hours Dr who came out was thorough and kind and made sure everyone who needed to know I was on my way knew, which made it easy for when we arrived at A and E with our comprehensive notes! The nurses, drs and porter were fantastic, explaining every step and test that was being carried out which definitely helped reduce anxiety. When taken to the women’s health ward we had to wait for a few mins and the porter kindly turned the fan to me whilst we were waiting. I was put into a room on my own as I had been in another hospital, it was spotless. The beds were made every day, room cleaned and bins changed twice a day. The catering was great with the ladies being so kind and having a little chat whilst delivering meals and nothing being to much trouble. The medical care I received was outstanding. The nurses are unbelievable, they know their patients and they are on top of everything, I had a temperature one morning and my nurse was straight on it speaking to the dr and getting things sorted. I was kept informed with everything, why I was having which medicine, what time my obs would be etc. I was so grateful to the Drs for their knowledge, expertise and care, it felt extremely thorough and intensive. I was aware when the ward was full how much more pressure the nursing staff were under as they don’t have any more staff on duty just because they’re full but they seemed to work even harder to maintain the standards. As a patient we’re not always aware of the team effort it takes to deal with someone being poorly, calls to microbiology, pharmacy etc. I was overwhelmed that my whole NHS journey from out of hours Dr to being discharged was absolutely outstanding.....thank you!
