"Managers need to sort out her sonographer and how..."

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital

What I liked

The waiting room was lovely. I sat there with numerous other mums for an extra half and hour then I should of been when my appointment was at 10:10am

What could be improved

I've just been for my 20 week scan and can't believe how rude and unhelpful she was!!

I arrive at 10 for my 10 past scan and I didn't get seen for another half hour. As soon as I walked through the door she had already started talking about other patients on how they didn't have there labels and how much inconvinence it was to print another set out for "forgetful" patients. I laid on the bed and had had the sonographer before, (she was unhelpful and rude then and gave me very bad pictures for my 8 week scan where even the 12 week sonographer said what is it?) She had done the usual routine regarding tissue, gel etc and at first was very happy LO was sitting with his head by my belly button but was moving to his side etc. She looked at his head and was actually pressing so hard it was hurting me and took measurements after that it was like I had become a chore for her, she rushed through everything just saying "um yeah, suppose that looks okay." She had to look to see if he had a cleft lip and just said " I can't see but I guess it'll be okay". I was getting annoyed then but she really got quite offensive when she said "you're too big, hold your stomach up" She's the only one who does that to people my other 2 sonographer's never did this. She went to look at his heart and said "I can't see his heart" as I looked up I could see it beating clearly and was outraged she had said she couldn't when even the other lady said, it's there.. She had me roll on either side and then said we're done.

Anything else?

I told her I paid £4 for pictures and she huffed put more jelly on me and just took 4 of the same image and said there. I ask for her to confirm the sex, and she looked at me with disgusted that I had asked her and said "really you want to know?" and I said yeah, she asked me 4 more times and made me feel like I was asking her to run to China to pick me up some food. She had a look and said "well it's either the placenta or a boy I can't tell and moved to the door and opened it for me to leave.

I was so angry that I asked to speak to the manager who said "what she actually meant was she couldn't see the ventricles when she said she couldn't see the heart" which obviously doesn't help me as I wasn't to know that. I was lucky I got 4 pictures even if they are bad quality because I was there to see if my baby was okay not to see if he's photogenic" I was so angry of course I want to leave knowing my baby is okay but I didn't even get that, I was made to feel horrible and a bad mother for wanting photo's of him. I had paid for a gender scan at 16 weeks and she told me "I pay for there time to actually look at the baby and get photo's" I thought she was meant to be looking to see if he was okay etc. She wanted me to come back in 2 weeks but when I said I was away she said "well I guess will have to do it after then won't we."

I did complain to the manager, but she didn't care and just went on about how another patient had complained and she did nothing about it. I am totally outraged and I am consulting my midwife to change me to Southampton General Hospital so I won't be treated with such disgust and outrageous behaviour. The manager did tell me that I should feel "privilege" that I got 4 photo's instead of 2 and at Southampton I'll have to pay £5 for two"... logo
