"A nurse literally said "ew" about my ailments."

About: City Health Centre

Having used this walk in service 3 times in the past I've no trouble and have actually recently registered here. Today i was seen by a nurse and when I left the room I burst into tears for the judgement, disgust they showed in my aliments, and questioning whether i was just a pain medication addict looking for a fix.

I've been suffering with jaw/dental pain for around 3 weeks. A case of gingivitus, an infection, a tooth that needs removing, one root canal and one filling have come loose. First time I visited here was while the pain had gotten too much and i still have 5 days until the soonest dental appointment I could get. The doctor who saw me was incredibly understanding, diagnosed my gingivitis and provided me with the pain medication I needed so i could finally sleep for the first time in 36 hours.

After my dental appointment I received antibiotics for my infection, and the gingivitis was confirmed. I could not have any of my dental work done until my infection had cleared up. The original pain medication I received has now run out, I have been through my course of antibiotics and my pain is still as severe as ever, Causing insomnia once again. With it being another 4 days until my dental appointment I had assumed it would be intelligent to go and see if I can be helped with the pain again. I had actually been two days earlier to triage where the nurse had advised I come back on Friday morning as it was a 3 hour wait and as long as my pain stayed tolerable I had enough tablets left to get me through work at least and Firday morning they could give me the help I needed.

Today the nurse practitioner was possibly the most unprofessional nurse I have ever been seen by. When I listed the dental and jaw pains, starting with admitting to gingivitis, they literally said "ew" and scrunched up their face. Never have I ever felt so much shame to admit an ailment to anyone. I had quite happily told my co workers and friends when they asked what was wrong, but now I feel so much shame over my illness.

They than went on to tell me zapain "30 mg" was the exact same as the over the counter medicine i could buy "8mg" I quoted basic maths to them to where they suggested i just "triple up and take extra ibuprofen" They then questioned if i had truly been to the dentist as Codine is addictive and I'm probably just getting addicted. They informed me i should've been taking the codine constantly and because I had taken it only when In pain i wasn't using the medication correctly so didn't really need it. As my pain comes and goes the first doctor had told me to only take it when I was in pain. One would assume you shouldn't take pain medication when not in pain. The huge confusion i had when seeing this nurse was that they were telling to me "double or triple up" aswell as "you should've of been taking the codine constantly even when not in pain" and then suggesting I had an addiction!? Clearly this person needs to learn some basic bed side manner.
