"Poor service."

About: New Birmingham Dental Hospital

I've waited since April for an appointment to come through. It's now the end of July. My appointment is next Thursday, but my implant is now so loose that I doubt it will last.

I rang to ask if there had been a cancellation, so that I could be seen sooner. Birmingham's least helpful person answered. No, I can't be seen any sooner because the new patient clinic is only on Thursdays. I explained that I'm not a new patient, I'm an old one with a new referral, because they'd failed to send a follow-up appointment through, last time and I had therefore dropped off clinic. No joy. There will be no appointment movement.

So I asked that the consultant be aware that I'd be turning up minus a front tooth implant. Could we please arrange for appropriate treatment. Was informed that this appointment is an assessment only and no treatment would be provided. Piss poor. Remind me again why I'm travelling nearly 60 miles in city rush hour, for a 9am appointment which is going to do precisely naff all? I can't even make a treatment appointment until I've had the assessment. New tooth sometime around Christmas then?

I am sorry to read that your implant is loose, and hope it will be possible to arrange treatment quickly once you have had your assessment appointment.

It is always important to have an assessment for the clinical team to understand the cause of the problems, so that the right treatment is given.

I would like to help resolve this situation for you and ask that you email alison.last@bhamcommunity.nhs.uk or phone me on 0121 466 7128 to provide me with your details and the time/location of your appointment this Thursday so that I can make the necessary enquiries.

I hope to hear from you very soon.

With kind regards
