"Mentally mauled at Foundation House"

About: Foundation House

Havimg had the displeasure of being a client at this service, I can only say that the experience left me feeing very let down.

After being very unsure about engaging with the service, I was promised that they would want to help me.

However very little of this help actually materialised. Instead I was given a very stigmatising label without ever explaining it properly, treated with contempt and lied to frequently.

Trying to find answers to any questions about my so called care, got me labelled as difficult and complaining . Apparently speaking negatively about the service ....

The staff frequently displayed uncaring and prejudiced attitudes . Disorganised, unavailable and deliberately late for appointments.

Any attempt to rectify the situation was met with total disinterest and holier than thou attitudes.

Any kind of protestation about these cruel and hurtful practices resulted in being told that I wasn’t engaging properly.

As a consequence I have been left feeling deeply wounded and not knowing which way to turn for help. I can’t help but think that the appalling treatment was deliberate in order to keep the numbers down and discourage anyone from seeking help.

So much is made about care and concern in the mission statement, unfortunately I saw very little of it.

Having my words intentionally twisted and unthruths recorded about me , scare me in case this is happening to other vulnerable individuals.

A real shame that in this day and age mental health care attitudes are still in the Stone Age.

The very people who should be at forefront of tackling stigma and cruelty are in fact compounding it.

It is upsetting to hear about your experience of the service, I am sorry that you have felt so hurt and mistreated. I will share your views with the service leads to respond to, in the meantime you can raise your concerns with PALS.

Hello,

I'm sorry you have had such a poor experience. Just to follow up the post by Dr Knight; our PALS Service is our Patient Advice and Liaison Service and they can help talk through your concerns with you and feed those back to staff, if that is something that you feel would be helpful. You can email them on pals@sompar.nhs.uk or telephone 01278 432022.

Alternatively, if you would just like to share your story with the service manager or staff further in some way, anonymously if you would like, you can email myvoice@sompar.nhs.uk and I can email or speak with you about this. I appreciate that this might not be something that you want to do, and can understand that. However, thank you for posting your story which will be shared with the team.

Kind regards, LUCY
