My mum is in a care home and hadn't been feeling well. The GP was called out and she was prescribed antibiotics for a chest infection. The following day her condition deteriorated and the senior carer called the GP for advice who told him to dial 999 as they were concerned she had sepsis
The ambulance service was called twice by the carer and were told it was on the GPs request that an ambulance be sent. Both times they refused and told the carer to call NHS 24. The third time the GP called and they sent the ambulance...
My mum was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary A&E department where she received excellent care and was treated for sepsis. She was moved to a medical receiving ward and then onto a medical ward and was well cared for in both.
With her deteriorating condition we as a family were wanting her assessed before going back to her place of residence so it was suggested by her Parkinsons consultant that a short stay in Stobhill hospital ward B rehabilitation unit would be helpful to "Rehabilitate" her.
She was admitted to Stobhill and seen by a physiotherapist on the following day. She was discharged from physio care 2 days later. That was her rehabilitation ended...
She then sat in a chair for the next two weeks in a single room apart from when family and friends would visit daily and walk her round the ward...
The ward has a large dining room. Not once did my mum go there to eat, when I asked why I was told they didn't have the staff to assist patients there.
They also have a large activity area with a TV. Again we were told they didn't have the staff to assist patients.
This is a rehabilitation ward that offered NOTHING apart from my mum being put in a single room and basically being forgot about.
She did receive personal care, her food and medication. But she was there for rehabilitation...
She was actually weaker and her mobility poorer on discharge...
"Poorer mobility on discharge."
