I woke on Friday morning in severe pain. I seen my doctor who sent me to A&E and I was taken through to Surgical Observation Unit. The minute I arrived I was taken into a bay and Suzanne (Charge Nurse) took bloods and took observations from me. She was really good throughout and was chatting to me about what had been happening and it felt that staff were actually listening to me and taking me seriously as I've had issues in the past with dismissive medical staff but I was reassured this time it wouldn't be the case.
I was then given pain relief and kept updated on when the consultant would start his ward round. The nursing staff were very helpful and they worked well as a team as it was really busy in the ward but they were professional throughout. The consultant was really nice he took the time to listen to me, was very thorough and things were explained to me so that I understood and my questions were answered. I've been admitted to A&E twice previously in the past for the same thing but this time all avenues were covered as they decided as I'm a gynaecology patient they'd send me up to ward 210 to see one of the Gynae doctors. I was seen by one of the staff nurses Amy (I think her name was) she did all the admission paperwork and took obs.
The doctor arrived shortly after to see me (I can't remember her name) but she asked what had been happening took a history etc. She wanted to do an internal examination the support worker who was the chaperone was really nice, I found the internal uncomfortable so it was stopped I was given a minute and then it was carried on when I said so but in the end it was stopped altogether as I was in too much pain. The doctor did go over a plan with me she prescribed antibiotics but the ward only had one in stock as pharmacy was closed which was really frustrating as the one they had normally is a hit or a miss with me. Thank you to both wards for looking after me.
