"Post-natal Depression and Psychosis prevention"

About: Perinatal Mental Health Services / Hounslow Perinatal Mental Health Service

(as the patient),

I was referred to West London Mental Health services when I was pregnant with my first child. I had been with them before when I suffered with alcoholism and had a psychosis episode. They helped me then with my confidence and I started a 4 year counselling course which I would not of been able to do by myself.

When I went there while pregnant to help with my ongoing depression, the team there was excellent and very supportive. I felt heard and accepted with feelings I wasn't sure about and we spoke about them and explored my worries which made me feel more relaxed and less anxious. They were there throughout my pregnancy, came to the hospital after I gave birth for a discharge meeting and supported me for 6 months after my baby was born. I got a lot of support from them and helpful tips to cope with post-natal depression. Also, put me back on medication after birth to prevent psychosis happening again. The only thing that could be improved is a longer service after birth.

Thank you for taking the time to give us this feedback NewMama and we are very pleased you found the service supportive and helpful. We also appreciate your feedback regarding the service being available for longer after birth and this is something we will be able to offer in the near future.
