"Smell"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Accident & Emergency

(as a relative),

I visited the hospital last Wednesday to the children's hospital with my wee five year old.  the smell outside was horrific.  she was taken into the accident and emergency for children after suffering severe nose bleeds. When we got there couldn't fault the staff one little bit they were excellent  didn't wait long / to be seen. she wanted a drink of water and went to get one for her. no water cooler so asked the nurse and she stated that you couldn't drink the tap water owing to the sewage problem we were given water from a bottle.

What is the problem here so bad with the sewage works not far the hospitals can't believe that this was there no thought given to this when the hospital was built or does it all come down to money  as usual.

Dear 35635

Thank you for your post on Care Opinion.

I am pleased to read that your daughter didn’t wait too long to be seen at A&E and that the staff were excellent.

I will share your post with my colleagues in Facilities and ask that they respond to your concerns.

I hope that your daughter is feeling better.

Kind Regards

Nicole

Dear 35635,

Many thanks for sharing your experience of your visit to Royal Hospital for Children with your daughter – I hope she is on the mend.

Water cooler use is being reviewed by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) Infection Prevention Control Team and Facilities Teams across the Board. Water coolers are recognised across the United Kingdom as being a potential patient safety risk. A decision on whether these units will be completely withdrawn or partially reintroduced will be made in the coming weeks. Patient Safety is of paramount importance to NHSGGC and as a precautionary measure these have been withdrawn on a number of sites and in a number of locations until national guidance is clear, at which time NHSGGC will review the use of coolers Board wide. In the interim, patients are being offered bottled water as an alternative.

I am sorry that there was a miscommunication linking the water issue to the neighbouring water treatment plant.

Regards

Mandy Machell

Deputy Site Facilities Manager, Business
