The NHS service is incredibly and visibly stretched. The shortage of resources, staff juxtaposed with the volume of patients meant that I waited for 10 hours for my procedure to be completed (despite my GP's referral letter). I shared this long wait in pain between the A&E and the Acute Treatment place which is frustrating but no fault of the hospital and sadly out of their control.
However, what was also evident was that, in spite of it all, the Surgical Team were in particular impressingly attentive and went out of their way to make me feel at ease and comfortable before, during and after my surgery. I do wish to share a special thank you with the Surgical Team who agreed to operate on me on 25.06 at as late as 11 pm! They were considerate of my determination to have the procedure completed the same day, they were transparent in the their discussions of the surgery with me, took the time to involve me in the decision about the type of anaesthesia and discharge terms after the the op and ensured I felt looked after at all times. I am very grateful for their care, the 'personal touches' and attention last night.
