"Why is an NHS facility using a premium rate phone number?"

About: WestMARC (Glasgow)

(as a service user),

I feel ill treated by the N. H. S every time I have to phone for an appointment I am charged at premium rate for accessing a facility I need due to being an amputee. I am sure I am not the only person that has to phone WESTMARC for an appointment making the N. H. S a small fortune costing patients money we can't afford.

Dear Winston26

Thank you very much for posting your story on Care Opinion.

I would like to firstly apologise that you have felt the need to complain. Originally when the service was set up the 0844 number (a service number which is a low rate number) was used to ensure that all Patients regardless of location were able to access the service equitably. As time has progressed most people use their mobile phones to contact us and we have been encouraging patients to use the 0141 number to access WestMARC services. The number is 0141 201 2624, this will take you through to the same team.

We are currently working with our telephony team to find an alternative solution and following your feedback we have removed reference to the 0844 number from our website.

Kind Regards

Heather McIntosh
