"Clinical Assessment Unit and Ward B12"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Stroke care

(as a relative),

My husband was sent to CAU as the GP suspected he had had a stroke.

From the moment we stepped into CAU the care received from all members of staff including, students, trained staff, housekeeping , portering, clerical, in fact everyone we came into contact with was absolutely amazing.   My husband was treated with great kindness and respect by all. Unfortunately my husband was given bad news about his health  by Dr. Hargreaves. This news was delivered to my husband and I in a very clear and concise way. Dr Hargreaves is such a nice calm caring person.

My husband was then transferred to WD B12 where outstanding care was given to him by everyone who works on this ward. The staff although busy were always cheery and nothing was too much trouble for them.

The ward was spotless.Housekeeping kept him well fed and watered.

We would especially like to thank Dr. McKenzie (Specialist Trainee), for spending more time than she could probably spare for explaining things to my husband and myself. Her bedside manner is out if this world and she genuinely cares.

We would also like to thank all of those involved in my husband's biopsy procedure which was second to none and again treated my husband with patience and respect.

A massive thank you to everyone.

Keep up the good work.

Dear "retired midwife",

Firstly, please accept my sincere apologies that I didn't reply to you sooner - I have only just noticed that you didn't receive a reply to this lovely post around 2 months ago. This has been my oversight and I graciously apologise for this.

Thank you very much for taking the time to post on care opinion and I am grateful for your lovely comments. I am really sorry to learn that your husband received some bad news about his health whilst in our care and hope that he is now doing well and recovering as best as possible. Please pass on my regards and best wishes.

I was really pleased to hear that you both experienced what sounds like excellent patient centred care and that the whole team involved in every aspect of your husbands care contributed so positively. I am immensely proud of the organisation and the staff who work in it and it is only through feedback like yours we can really celebrate getting it right for everyone. I am certain that all of the people involved with your husband will be delighted to hear that you both had a positive experience despite the bad news.

Best wishes,

Gavin Dolan

Update posted by retired midwife (a relative)

Hi Gavin,

Thank you for your response. I didn't expect one.

No apology needed.

My husband passed away this July at home in my arms surrounded by our 4 children and eldest grandson. We love and miss him so very much.

Thank you once again to your staff in CAU (front part,(initial assessment), and CAU (back),where my husband was seen by Dr. Hargreaves and all the other wonderful staff). Thank you again also to ward B12 staff. Thanks also to a really nice Irish student nurse(sorry I can't remember her name), who was very nice to my husband.

Also thank you to the porters.

I'm so very sorry to learn this news - my deepest condolences to you and your family.

It's nice to hear that you, your children and grandson were all with your husband when he passed away. I'm sure knowing that you were all there gave him peace.

Very best wishes,

Gavin
