"Incorrect referral"

About: Liverpool Womens Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I was referred for a surgical procedure without the consultant carrying out the necessary checks to to determine whether I was suitable. To be informed on the day of the operation that it could not go ahead was extremely upsetting.

I informed PALS of this and 3 weeks later am still awaiting a response as to how this could happen. On discharge from hospital, the registrar issued the wrong advice about my medication and this was only brought to light when I queried it the following week.

The nurses on the gynaecology wards work incredibly hard and do their best to provide good care with limited resources, but mistakes are being made at a higher level and as a patient, you need to be alert to checking decisions and querying matters if things don't seem right.
