"Quick and effective treatment"

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital

I was diagnosed with bowel cancer after a colonoscopy at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth on 25 January 2018. On 6 February, after a multi-disciplinary meeting, I was given a programme for the treatment I was to receive and was also told that there had been no spread of the disease. That timetable was followed in every respect with first-class care given at every stage. On 15 March I was in the operating theatre where a section of bowel was removed robotically. Within a fortnight I was told that 31 lymph nodes taken for biopsy during the operation had shown no trace of cancer. I was clear of the disease. The whole process had taken just seven weeks. My wife and I have been immensely impressed with all the support we have been given. I have been fortunate in the outcome and so thankful for the way in which everything has been done, including its timeliness. My only criticism is that the food, which ought to be part of every patient's recovery, was at the opposite end of the quality spectrum and surely needs updating.

Thank you for taking the time to share your kind words with us. I will of course share your comments with the Teams involved in your care as I am sure they will be delighted to receive them. I will also share your comments regarding the food you were provided with the Company responsible for their feedback.

With best wishes

Lisa
