"A credit to the NHS"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Oesophageal Lab

(as the patient),

I would like to take some time to give some feedback on the service I received at the oesophageal lab at Hairmyres Hospital

Firstly my appointment letter and information leaflet. The leaflet was well laid out and easy to read and the very important parts were highlighted to catch your attention so you did not miss it - these sections refer to medications to stop and fasting instructions

When I was called through from the waiting area for my appointment I was greeted by Gordon who introduced himself and explained who he was and asked me how I was and escorted me to the clinic room

on entering Michelle came over and shook my hand and also introduced herself and again asked how I was and made sure I was comfortable before we started the appointment

The clinic itself was light and airy made more so by the staff and there friendly and calming personalities - they were both wonderful.

During the test the staff continued to talk me through it and the way they understood the test I can only assume that they themselves have had it carried out. they knew exactly what was going on and how to keep me calm and how to ease the test for me

it was not as scary and daunting as I thought it would have been but that was due to the expertise of the staff

after the test Michelle explained my diary to me and how to work the box I was going home with and what to do if something was to happen

on my return appointment Gordon was on hand to remove the tube from my nose Michelle went over my diary and discussed what would happen next, without noticing Gordon had the tube untapped and said he was going to take the tube out and in one movement it was out in the blink of an eye quick and effective.

I was informed that my test results would be available for the consultant within the week. I found that outstanding

the care from start to finish was exemplary.

a credit to the NHS is an understatement

the personal touches make all the difference from the way they talked to you to having a radio on in the background so you have something to focus on outside the test. It really helped.

Dear TTC51,

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your very kind feedback about the experience you had undergoing investigations with Michelle and Gordon in the Oespohageal Lab.

I know that they both pride themselves on being able to make their patients feel comfortable and well cared for as they know that undergoing tests can be a cause of anxiety and apprehension for some people.

I'm sure that reading a story like yours really helps them feel that all their hard work is worthwhile.

Cameron
