"Giving doctors a bad name"

About: Conquest Hospital / Gynaecology

I was rushed into the hospital two years ago having suffered an ectopic pregnancy. I was in a state of shock and to be honest I just didn't want to be there as it wasn't in my home town...unfamiliar territory.

The first gynecologist I spoke to was so disrespectful he actually discribed my inside as 'a car crash'. I think he was referring to the child I thought I was carrying inside me. I had explained I was meant to be getting married in a weeks time I wanted to cry so badly but he just made me feel like this was just something that happened when you have endo, I was feeling so unwell and he just made me feel like I was never ever going to be a mum in that moment, turns out he was right but I didn't need to be told right there and then when I was just about to face surgery thinking am I going to have to cancel my wedding.

However the nurses were amazing though, I was in a terrible way far from home all alone going though the most horrific experience and they kept me sain.

That one doctor has put me right off seeking treatment again and I won't be returning to the conquest for any treatment in the future if I can help it.

Thank you for sharing your experience of care at Conquest Hospital in July 2016, and for the very kind words of praise for the nursing staff. We can appreciate what a difficult and upsetting time it must have been for you, and the way you were spoken to by a member of the Gynaecology Team can have only exacerbated your distress for which we would like to apologise. The Trust is committed to providing a high standard of care and treatment to all patients and relatives, underpinned by the values and principles of dignity, compassion and respect, and it is both concerning and disappointing to read this was not always your experience. Please be assured that we have a robust process for handling concerns and complaints about patient care and treatment, and our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) is available to listen, guide, help and support patients and relatives in these matters. If you should experience an unsatisfactory standard of care from us in the future, please do not hesitate to contact PALS who would be very happy to assist you.
