"Compassionate end of life care"

About: Locala Community Partnerships CIC / End of Life Care Manorlands Sue Ryder Hospice

(as a relative),

My nana was diagnosed early this year with terminal cancer and sadly died on this April. From us leaving Airdale hospital up until her last hours of life we had so much support and all the help that we could ask for from Manorlands, the district nurses, the hospital, McMillan, Yorkshire care at home carers, the doctors and fast track.

Things were easy for the the first month or so and although we didn't need much help, McMillan was always a call away and pointed us in the right direction for everything when we had questions. Sadly my nana started to deteriorate after she decided against chemo.

In March my nana went up to Manorlands for respite. The staff there were brilliant and got her confidence back. We was struggling at home at this point so it gave our family a much needed break and time to come to terms with the diagnosis and with things to come. This is where we met Martin.

Martin from fast track was great, he made it possible to keep my nana at home. We was worried about bringing her back but he sorted out carers, a bed, nurses and equipment to help us look after her. He regularly popped in to see if there was anything more we needed and see how we was doing. The carers he organised were fantastic people. They spent their time making my nana laugh and were so compassionate and caring.

We had regular doctor visits and the nurses came twice a week. Sometimes every day when we felt we needed them.

So on behalf of myself, my nana and my family I would like to thank everyone involved in caring for my nana in her last few months of life. Without your service's and help we would have struggled.
