Over the last twenty or so years I have had a goitre which eventually was having an affect on my swallowing as well as my breathing. I was referred initially to the ENT department whose care was excellent as well as thorough. Through them, I was then referred to a surgeon; Mr. Kirmani. From the outset I could not have been in better hands. He explained at the first meeting on the 5th of February, what the operation entailed and all the possible outcomes. Needless to say, I researched the problem and read about it. I was very worried and anxious however, I was invited to attend the Netteswell Unit in early April for a Pre-Op assessment. The staff there were absolutely outstanding, they helped to allay my fears and they also explained in detail the procedure for the operation day and the usual post-operative care. On the day; ten days later, I arrived at the required time and was asked to wait until being called. A short time later I was called in by the anaesthetist who was absolutely fantastic, explaining the procedure, the after care and generally making me feel more at ease. After that, I was again called in by a nurse who took all of my details and then a little while later by Mr. Kirmani himself. Again he was an absolute gentleman. He explained in detail the procedure, he was very kind and extremely human. I can't sing his praised enough. The operation went ahead later on in the afternoon and my after care in PACU was second to none. On being transferred to Nightingale Ware, I found the staff there to be diligent, caring and very friendly. I would not hesitate to recommend PAH. They were absolutely the best.
