I called to request a repeat pain relief prescription on behalf of my wife who had undergone surgery the week previously. The person on the phone said I would need to call back at 1pm to see if the prescription had been produced. I explained my wife was in a lot of pain and was almost out of pain killers. They suggested calling back after 10am.
I called back after 10am and the same person said the prescription had been signed off and was awaiting collection by Tesco. They said it could not go electronically as normal as the item was a controlled drug.
I called again around 2pm explaining what had been said previously and asked if Tesco had collected the prescriptions yet. I was told that they had so I took time out from work to pick up the prescription.
Upon arrival at Tesco I was told the prescription had not been received. I walked up to Market Surgery and spoke to the person on reception who said I had just missed the person from Tesco. I walked back to Tesco but they had not yet arrived. After waiting approximately 15 minutes they arrived but my wife's prescription was not amongst the batch they had. I walked back up to Market Surgery and spoke to the same person on reception again. They said they needed to speak to the manager and left the desk for a while. When they came back with the manager they looked in a drawer next to where they were sat and the prescription was found immediately. At which point I had to walk back to Tesco to pick up the prescription.
The reception team based the information they provided me with over the phone and on my first visit on assumption rather than checking the drawer where prescriptions are kept to ensure they actually provided the correct information. The surgery was very quiet so there was no pressure to rush and deal with other patients and I felt it showed a lack of professionalism from what is essentially the surgery's first port of call for patients.
