What I liked
After reading some of the feedback on this hospital (which is terriflying) I thought that I'd report on my recent visit to A&E. Arrived just before midday with chest pains and was taken into a cubicle fairly quickly. The male nurse was friendly, courteous and efficient as he did an ecg and took blood tests. He managed to put me at ease as I was a little scared, thinking that perhaps I had a heart problem.
The department was obviously busy and the people in the curtained cubicle next to mine were very noisy, but this wasn't the fault of the staff. Eventually I saw a doctor and she too was extremely courteous and thorough. She went through lots of questions and checked everything on the nurse's report. I got the impression that she really cared about me and I appreciated that she took the time and trouble to explain what she was doing and why.
What could be improved
I was very happy with the treatment I received and do feel very lucky, considering that most hospital staff seem to be working under considerable pressure. it can't be easy for them. Sometimes it can be forgotten that a hospital visit is often a frightening experience, however all the people I came across did an excellent job.
It would have be nice if people had perhaps introduced themselves, e.g. I'm a nurse and my name is xx, would have helped a bit. But it's no big thing.
Anything else?
I'd like to thank everyone at the Royal Sussex and let them know that they are appreciated. They are doing a splendid job under difficult circumstances.
Unfortunately I was diagnosed with a condition needing surgery so I have been put on the waiting list for an operation - stay tuned for my op report at the same hosital in the next few weeks!
