"Jaundice care"

About: Russells Hall Hospital / General medicine

(as a relative),

My mother was admitted to this hospital with severe jaundice and vomiting. She's been rushed in twice in the last 2 weeks, with the second emergency she still hasn't been diagnosed even though our family have asked her to be be checked out for autoimmune hepatitis of the liver which runs in the family.

They actually discharged her this morning without the knowledge of her family to make her own way home. She is 78 years old and it took me an hour to get to her. This is diabolical.

I am so angry!!!!

Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback regarding your mother’s recent experience.

We are so disappointed to hear you were left upset following her discharge home. We always aim to treat patients and arrange for them to return home as soon as it is safe for them to do so, we are sorry to hear you feel this was not the case for your mother.

It is hard to comment on a specific case without more detail and would welcome the opportunity to look into this further.

If you have not done so already, please contact our Patient Advice & Liaison Service who can arrange to look into the case and find out more about the events surrounding your mothers care and discharge from hospital. If you would like to contact them you can call Freephone 0800 073 0510 or email dgft.pals@nhs.net
