On Tuesday 19th September my brother and I contacted Highfield Surgery as my 90 year old was unwell, she has a fear of anyone in the medical profession. The doctor came on a house call and immediately put my mother's fears to rest, was kind, gentle and understanding. The doctor examined her and told her she had a chest infection and prescribed antibiotics and some cream as she had cellulitis.
The doctor also explained to my brother and I that she wasn't well but respected her wishes not to go to hospital.
Later that day another member of staff came to visit and explained that they were arranging for the Council Home Care team to be put in place.
By the following day we had care teams in place, a hospital bed brought in and the Hospice at Home team on duty along with District Nurses on call.
Everything was put in place so quickly with very little fuss which was a huge help not just for my mum but also offered support to my brother and I.
Sadly, she passed away on the 20th September.
I personally wanted to say a huge thank you to the doctor and staff for all the help and support that was provided for my mum in her last week of life but also the support my brother and I were given but also Blackpool Council Home Care Team and Trinity at Home nurses and finally the staff at Highfield Surgery for their comforting words.
I still can't take in how quickly everything was put in place for my mum.
