"Worry is all consuming"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Urology (Bladder and Urinary problems) General Practices in Grampian

(as the patient),

I had to wait three weeks to see a GP about a very sore bladder they tested me on the friday and blood was found after GP - they asked me back Monday and still blood.

I had another hospital apt about bowel same day there. Consultant immediately asked for a ct scan which came through emergency -- great service, but worry of cancer in bladder is all consuming as I have leukemia anyway.

So again made approach to GP Friday, they had had result since Wednesday and not bothered to call.  Hey guys this is serious come on. Anyway made apt (week before ct scan appt) and was told blood again, could be cancer IC it had no virus so infection unlikely. But was pleased ARI consulant had arranged CT scan, which is all they would do, so I may be referred to urology after scan.

But can I say the waiting is a nightmare as I'm told bladder cancer is really fast acting -- so hope the urology can see me quickly -- I have no problems with losing bladder if need be. Wondered if ARI can do the make new bladder thing Leeds can do.

So absolutely at my wits end with delays at GPs that needs to be improved, it was pure luck I had a recall to ARI for check my bowel - was clear in oct 2016 of any cancer.

Hope the urology don't wait too long as it gets sorer every day.

Dear Coly2,

Thank you for sharing your experience so far. I can understand how worrying it is waiting and that can be so frustrating. I hope you do not have to wait too long either to be seen by Urology especially when you are in pain. If you require any assistance in helping you to be seen by Urology please email me direct on john.graham5@nhs.net.

With Kind Regards

John

Dear coly2,

I am sorry to hear about the problems you have had waiting for the GP to get back to you with your test results and understand how stressed you must feel.

I agree that there are improvements to be made and it seems like communication would be close to the top of the list.

GP practices aren’t automatically alerted to feedback on Care Opinion, but I think it would be helpful to let your practice know how these delays have made you feel – it gives them an opportunity to put themselves in your shoes and look at making changes. I would be happy to contact them for you if that would be helpful? If you would like me to do this, could you send me the name of the practice? I can be contacted by email or you could reply via this thread.

I hope you don't have too much of a wait to be seen by urology.

Take care,

Kirsten
