"No Appointment unless Doctor agrees on the phone"

About: Concord Medical Centre

My son has had 3 episodes of severe stomach cramps and constant vomiting of bile, on 2 occasions we needed to take him to A&E they were brilliant, giving him pain relief and anti sickness as well as rehydration.

The pain took several hours to subside he had raised white cells and blood in his urine.

The surgeon thought it likely to be kidney stones but these did not show up on the CT scan and by then it was 8pm at night and he was discharged.

He rang to doctors surgery to get a regular appointment to discuss whether further tests would help.

He was refused an appointment.

It maybe that further tests would not help, but he is travelling for 3 months later in the year with his girlfriend and is obviously anxious due to the severe pain of it reoccurring.

He is not good at articulating on the phone and I feel that 1 appointment would have reassured him.

We now have no options available, no wonder young men do not go to the doctors.

To be honest we are a family of 4 all working and years go by before we need the doctor. I am going to check if other GPs in the area operate this process and we will all move.

Thank you for your feedback.

We are sorry to read that your son has been unwell.

We are surprised that you say your son was refused an appointment and would need some more information from you regarding this. We do not refuse appointments to patients. We arrange for a GP or relevant clinician to telephone patients first. If the patient then requires a face-to-face appointment in the practice, this will be arranged.

We also have an online service called 'askmyGP', accessible from our practice website (www.concordmedicalcentre.co.uk). This can be used instead of telephoning the practice to submit details of your medical problem or question. We will then get back to you.

If your son is not good at articulating on the phone, perhaps the askmyGP option would be preferable for him. This can be accessed 24/7 and we will respond the following day.

We would be happy to discuss this further should you wish to.
