"Anxiety after MRI experience"

I had a scan end of last year which was really traumatic on my head, neck and spine. It broke down with me in it and I was stuck in it for 15 mins. The doctor stayed with me in the pitch dark and held my leg to let me know he was still there as I was beginning to have a panic attack. I was told had to go back into it after it had been rebooted as still got to do my neck.

I found it very difficult to do this but eventually managed it. After I was told they had all the images and went home. A month later they said only did my neck and hadn't got any other images. I am disgusted because I am sure they lost them when the machine broke down as I was told by the person doing it they had done my neck. Now I am back on waiting list for another scan which is causing me stress and anxiety about going back in as I know l had to wait weeks last time when I feel I should be able to have it now as it wasn't my fault it broke down.

Thank you taking the time to share what must have been such a difficult experience in our Imaging Department during the unexpected breakdown of an MRI machine.

We ensure that all equipment is well maintained to prevent this from and we are sorry to hear the equipment failed during your scan.

We do all we can to prioritise patients to be offered another appointment as soon as possible.
