After a horrid month of repeated visits to my GP whilst watching my 10 year old daughter worsen daily she finally ended up as an Emergency admission to the QEUH.
Following diagnostic surgery we were very sensitively told that she had Crohn’s Disease. Whilst relieved at having a reason for her symptoms, we felt devastated that our daughter now had a chronic illness. Also having listened to the worst stories from ‘people who know someone’ we felt lost.
However following diagnosis we were immediately made aware of the support services and introduced to the dietician team and IBD Specialist Nurses, Vikki and Lisa.
Now discharged and in the initial treatment stage I have to inform everyone of the incredible support from Vikki and Lisa. Always available by email and making weekly telephone calls. They make us feel so cared for and safe.
My precious daughter, obviously loved by me but so cared for by this brilliant team. I am a nurse myself and am just so proud to be aware that a fantastic support network exists.
They have made this horrific time bearable.
