"Visiting times information"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Acute Medical Receiving Unit (AMRU)

(as a relative),

My family were asked to leave Ward 2 hairmyers when visiting a patient recently. We attended at 3pm as per the visiting times on the nhs website. The staff told us the website was wrong and people were continually telling them that. Would it not be a good idea to put the correct times in?

Dear Spartacus,

I am so sorry for any embarrassment your family experienced when visiting at Hairmyres hospital recently.

Please be assured that we have a person-centred approach to visiting and wherever possible visiting is unrestricted as we recognise the significant contribution that family and friends play during a patients' recovery and convalescence, That said, some of our acute receiving areas do have prescribed times and there may be times during visits where the staff will ask visitors to step out of the ward to protect the privacy and dignity of those they are visiting, or another patient in close proximity when providing care or treatment.

I am currently reviewing the information published on the NHS Lanarkshire website with the Communications team for all NHS Lanarkshire hospitals.

In the meantime, if you or your family need to visit outside a prescribed time, please speak with the nurse in charge of the ward to make arrangements.

Kind regards
