"pain management"

About: The Royal Victoria Infirmary / Pain Management

I have been coming to pain management for a number of years for epidural and lumbar facet joint injections. I have just been told that my epidural will be cut to twice a year and I can no longer have facet joint injections due to the cutbacks decided by the care quality commissioners. I had my last facet joint injection 2nd march 2018 and have to wait 6mnths for my next epidural which I was getting 3x a year how can someone just decide to do this when they are not qualified enough to do this I am so angry and upset about this as I am dreading what my future will be i would urge everyone to get in touch with their MP and the commissioners for a explanation why no one was told about this and we still have not received any letter just told by pain management receptionist when i rang to book my 3 appointments for this year that i have to request a ticket from a manager for treatment and wait to hear which is totally unfair on the receptionists i am not a number i am a person in chronic pain so i urge everyone please get in touch with MP etc plus i am dreading the effects when it wears of and i can not get my treatment as far as I'm concerned the doctors do a great job in helping me if i didn't have injections and have had many over the last 10 years plus i wouldn't be having them if they didn't help these people want to speak to the patients hope they not in same situation one day

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback regarding the treatments that you receive at Pain Management, RVI Newcastle. Your treatment has been affected by a CCG policy called Value Based Commissioning which, as an NHS Hospital we are required to adhere to. However we are challenging some elements of its implementation as we believe that there are patients such as yourself who benefit from these treatments.

If you wish to contact the commissioners directly, please contact Newcastle Gateshead Commissioning Group:
