"Lack of confidence in certain doctors"

About: Plumstead H/C Pms

I have been a patient at this practice for 35 years, for the past few years I have felt let down and unsatisfied with my consultations with the GP's I saw. I have been complaining of repeat symptoms for several years, apart from prescribing lots of different pills I have only ever been sent for the odd x-ray & blood tests. I have also been an IBS sufferer for over 20 years, again the medication for this condition was just repeated & I was actually using co-codomol the manage the spasms for my IBS. Recently I made a few visits to my GP (on a weekly basis) as I had lost my voice, on my third visit I was advised by my GP to try one of the Chinese herbal shops on the high street to see if they could give me something for my voice as there was nothing they could do. I was mortified and made an appointment for the following week with another doctor at the practice who upon looking back on the system immediately prescribed me with a course of antibiotics as well as referring me to the ENT department at Guy's hospital where I was diagnosed with a severe case of

Hyperfuncional dysphonia and my vocal cords were bowed, they have made an urgent referral for me to receive vocal therapy.

The doctor who initially made this hospital referral I have only seen a handful of times, but this doctor in the few consultations that i have had with them has managed to:

Change my IBS medication to an effective medication that actually works and i no longer have to take co-codomol to manage my IBS

discover that i had a very serious Vitamin D deficiency (my count was 15, it should have been between 50-60) When i mentioned this to my usual GP i was informed that this was not the first time my count was this low, but it had been overlooked previously & nothing was done about it.

Referred me to a Rumertologist where it was discovered that i had Fibromalgia, Bursitis in my right hip as well as a problem with my feet which was causing the pain & constant swelling in my ankles.

Referred me to the ENT to get an adequate diagnosis on why i had lost my voice for more than a month.

This Particular doctor is not my GP, but unfortunately is the only doctor that i have faith in who i know will not prescribe me pills just for the sake of it. I feel very let down by the GP's that myself and my children are unfortunately assigned to at this practice especially as these are not the doctors that i chose for us as a family GP, the doctor i did choose unfortunately left the practice & we were assigned these other two (yes they split my family across two different doctors) who i have no faith in. Luckily at the moment i am able to choose which doctor i want to see, but if at all possible i would like my family to be assigned to the only GP at this practice who i know actually takes the reasons why we make an appointment seriously, does not fob me off with pills for the sake of it or recommend that i visit a non qualified shop on the high street for treatment.

Dear Patient

I am sorry you have felt let down by the practice previously but are now satisfied with the treatment you have received.

On reading some of your comments I would like to advise you that we have an in-house complaints procedure which could provide you with a personal response to address your concerns.

We sincerely regret that you have had such an unpleasant experience.

Kind Regards

Anita Raipal

Practice Manager
