"Delays in getting treatment at the Assisted Conception Unit"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

I am writing about the catalogue of blunders by the staff we have dealt with at the Assisted Conception Unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

We were referred to ACS in March last year with all our files transferred to the unit and all the scans prior to that. We were invited for tests last autumn with a view to starting treatment the following month. So time off work taken, all set and ready to go.

We got there on the first day of scan for the cycle and the doctor says they are seeing something in the lining of the womb so can't carry on. We were surprised as we had been doing steady scans since my wife found out about her blocked Fallopian tube.

We were referred to get another scan done and they stopped the treatment only to call back a couple of weeks after that. All the details of what the doctor 'found' was already in the notes they should have read before coming for the scan. Inevitably, this has pushed us back 6 months because after that call we were told to book in for treatment again only to be told when trying to book that blood tests had now expired.

So we book for a blood test and take time off from work for it. Turn up and been told, now smear test has expired... surely the person taking the booking can see that on the file.

So now we are having to wait 6 weeks for smear test and then start chasing ACS again. The organisational ability in the unit seems very bad. They don't seem to be proactive about anything, just reactive.
