"Visit to Shepton MIU"

About: Shepton Mallet Community Hospital

On our visit to Shepton MIU this afternoon, I was appalled by the manner and the way the sister on duty treated our daughter.

She was abrupt and talked to her as if she was telling her off. My daughter is young and in pain and I do not expect her, or anyone to be treated in this way. My daughter actually burst into tears and told me that she made her feel sad :(

You take your child to be checked over as you are worried because you care deeply about them and you expect them to be listened to and treated with respect, being treated like this at a young age could make her frightened to visit nursing staff in the future who are supposed to be there to reassure you and make you feel better and not worse.

I will be making a formal complaint

Good morning

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience of one of our MIU's. I was really sorry to read that your visit to the unit was less than satisfactory and I would very much like to look into this matter further. In order to do so please could you contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service, PALS, on Tel: 01278 432022 or email us at pals@sompar.nhs.uk so that I can take it forward.

I hope that your daughter is now feeling much better and I hope that this poor experience does not deter either you or members of your family from visiting any of our Trust MIU's should you need to do so in the future.

With kindest regards
