"Service should be returned"

About: Lanarkshire Community Services

(as a parent/guardian),

East Kilbride baby clinic

The baby clinic that used to be on every Wednesday at Hunter Health Centre and then was changed to once a month and now this service has been taken away completely there's now no baby clinic held with in East Kilbride which I personally think is shocking. I've just had a visit from my health visitor today so had him weighed but he is now not due to be seen until he is 1 that's another 5 months!

My only concern is he has dropped in his percentile so I'm going to want to get him weighed again but unfortunately due to this service being taken away where am I meant to do this exactly? Am I meant to call the health visitor to get him weighed because the baby clinic was a very busy clinic so I can only imagine how busy the health visitors are going to be now!

It's a service I think you should return as I know all my friends that have young children feel the same.

Hi Michelle2701,

Thank you for contacting us on Care Opinion

As a first time mum you will, naturally, have a range of worries and concerns and I am glad that, to date, we have been able to provide you with the information that you needed in a helpful and supportive way. I assure you that we will endeavour to continue to do that. The Well Baby Clinic has been discontinued because NHS Lanarkshire, like all Scottish Health Boards, is in the process of moving away from the clinic based model and is implementing the new, research based, ‘Scottish Government Health Visiting Pathway in Scotland: pre-birth to pre-school’ which is a national pathway for all children in Scotland.

The Pathway is more family and person-centred than the clinic based system as it involves Health Visitors providing care and support in the child’s own home, improving relationship building with the family and ensuring that families’ needs are appropriately assessed and responded to in a person-centred and supportive way. The Pathway is evidence based which has been introduced to improve the health of children in Scotland and increases the number of health visiting contacts with pre-school children.

All parents are given a Red Book which includes the contact details for their Health Visitor. Please contact your Health Visitor if you require any support out with pathway contacts and we will be more than happy to help.

Kind regards

Karen
