"nursing great medical needs thinking..."

About: William Harvey Hospital (Ashford)

What I liked

I attended the endoscopy dept for a gastronomy procedure on 24th may. At all times from the person making the appointment for me, including giving ma a cancellation to make the location easier, through reception & especially nursing care I was treated with the utmost care and attention.Especially through the procedure they were brilliant and caring.

My problem is with the doctor.

Firstly I was told that the doctor would go through the consent form with me they didnt.

The doctor took no interest in asking why I was there and when I tried to explain about my problems with anaesthetic they seemed oblivious to my comments.

I was given a drug in the theatre and almost immediately a tube was thrust into my throat and I was subjected to the most uncomfortable procedure you can imagine. The doctor's total bedside manner when I was gagging & nearly vomiting was" stop struggling and keep still you will hurt yourself"

At no time did the sedative kik in and at no time was I relaxed and ready to be examined.

After the exam the doctor did not at any time come to see if I was either ok or why I had had such difficulty. The wrote on the report "the patient tolerated the procedure poorly.

My fault or theirs?

When I mentioned their manner to one of the nurses they smiled with embarrassment and said no comment!

The doctor needs to do better
