"Excellent nursing despite low numbers,..."

What I liked

I am writing as a parent who's son was admitted to the children's unit. I am especially impressed by a member of the night staff who was so very vigilant in the care of my son and I felt that he was in the best care imaginable with her looking after him and making sure the doctors came to see him. She was very good at reassuring the both of us!

What could be improved

I have no concerns about the nursing staff, although the doctors that were involved in my son's care should have come to see him sooner and operate before the situation got to a state where he had to be whisked the theatre at 3am! I also think the ward should have an area where parents can get a cup of tea after a stressful night.

Anything else?

Although the staffing levels seemed strained, the staff who looked after my son spent the time talking to him and ensuring he was pain free and happy after his operation.
