"High standard of care"

About: Tolworth Hospital

(as a student nurse),

All of the staff are dedicated to caring for the patients and have built up close professional relationships. However, care abilities are stretched due to staff shortages, sometimes the care feels rushed. Overall the standard of care is high and all of the staff are competent. The patient’s needs are listened to and followed up, for example, needing more shower gel or razors. The atmosphere in this ward is very warm and caring.

I have not been able to work with my dedicated mentor for most of the placement, however, they were there when I needed them or wanted to talk to them. Due to the busy nature of the ward I can understand that they most likely did not have time.

The learning environment is very good, a lot of opportunities in mental and physical health care. At times I was left unsure of what I should be doing but I have learnt a lot and am very happy with how the staff have answered all my questions and explained things to me when I procedures wrong. Never felt like my questions were unanswered.

Dear hawkqx33

My name is Farai and I and the Engagement & Experience Co-ordinator for the Trust. I am glad that despite not being able to work with your mentor for most of your placement you were still able to learn from all the staff in that environment.

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave your story about your experience as a student nurse. I will you all the best with the rest of your studies.

Kind regards

Farai
