What I liked

I came to ward 33 via A & E on a Sunday evening. From the moment that I was seen by a doctor in A&E until my discharge from ward 32 on the following Wednesday, I was treated very well.

All the staff involved were caring, hard working and dedicated to the job.

The staff on the ward worked very hard under what appeared to be sometimes difficult conditions.

The wards were clean and the ancillary staff pleasant and also hard working.

What could be improved

My only criticism, and its minor really. During the night of the Monday after my operation, I was very thirsty. I had asked the staff for a jug of water twice. A carer made a flippant comment about the water making up for my lack of alcohol. This I personally took offence at , as I do not drink. Given the obvious lack of experience, I can understand that perhaps they were trying to be funny.

Anything else?

I personally feel that I was not kept in hospital long enough following the operation.

The reason for this is I am a lone carer of a four year old boy, who has severe cerebral palsy. He needs twenty four hour care.

This was not taken into consideration either on admission or discharge.

Although its not my place to comment on other patients some of them appeared to be on the wards for a long period of time for minor complaints that were being assessed.

Just to add I am a RGN who trained at DMH. I am still proud of that fact and hope that staff moral remains high, and that the caring profession continue to care.
