"Enlarged benign prostate green laser treatment"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Urology

(as a service user),

The procedure was pain free and totally successful immediately with no adverse side effects so far other than the expected slight bleeding. My fears of incontinence and impotence were unfounded. I received a general anaesthetic and as part of that procedure, a breathing assist tube was inserted in my throat. This caused some damage to my throat which prevented peristalsis and I could not eat or drink for several days. I lost weight and was re-admitted for re-hydration. I am now steadily recovering. Throughout the whole process, the care I received was excellent from both  the nursing staff and from a range of doctors from junior doctors to consultants. I previously self-catheterised with no problems but would still strongly recommend the procedure.
