"My husband's emergency admission"

About: Dr Gray's Hospital / Emergency Medicine Dr Gray's Hospital / Medicine for the Elderly Dr Gray's Hospital / Stroke NHS 24 Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a service user),

I'd like to say a very big thank you to all staff in A&E, the Stroke Ward and Ward 7 who treated my husband, already frail due to CBD - a progressive neurological disorder - who was admitted as an emergency.

Completely out of the blue he developed a fever, his breathing became noisy and laboured and he couldn't stop shivering. NHS24 answered my call promptly and a doctor arrived within the hour. She recognised the urgency of the situation and called for an ambulance. The ambulance men were calm and cheerful and we both felt in safe hands.

Once in A&E in Dr Gray's, staff knew the correct course of action to take. Two days after being admitted with pneumonia and a kidney infection, my husband was sitting beside his bed giving me the answers to the Press and Journal crossword which I wrote in for him.

I now have him home again. Thank you.

Dear Lib51

I am so pleased you have your husband home with you. I hope he makes a good recovery from his pneumonia and kidney infection. I am sure it would have been a worrying time for you and your family. Great to hear that a few days after admission he was well enough to answer the crossword questions.

It is good of you to share your experience on Care Opinion and provide thanks to the staff who provided care to your husband. It was great to see that you mentioned NHS 24 within your positive feedback. Should you wish to contact me directly to share any further information concerning your call to us, then I would be delighted to hear from you. I can be contacted on 0141 337 4582 or by email at patientaffairs@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

I am sure my colleagues within NHS Grampian and the Scottish Ambulance Service will be pleased with you kind words for their staff.

Thanks again for sharing your experience on Care Opinion.

Take care

Dear Lib51,

Thank you very much for sharing your story on Care Opinion. I am happy to read that your husband is back home again with you. Having not only Pneumonia but a Kidney infection as well must have been very distressing, not just for your husband but for yourself as well.

I am also glad to read that our crew attended you in a manner that helped and at a standard we would expect. It seems reading this story that it is a wonderful representation of what a Patient Experience should be and all the partners in NHS Scotland came together to deliver this.

I can pass on your kind comments to the crew and their manager if you so wish. If you would like me to do so you can contact me on scotamb.corporateaffairs@nhs.net. I will need the date and rough time we attended your husband, the address we attended your husband and of course your husbands name.

Thank you again for taking the time to write this and I wish you and your husband all the best.

Alan

Dear Lib51

Many thanks for taking the time to thank the staff of the various departments in Dr Grays who were involved in your husband care during his recent visit.

Throughout Dr Grays we strive to deliver person centred care and its important for patients and relatives to be kept informed of their individualised care and treatment.

I'm delighted that your husband recovered quickly and is now at home. Hopefully he is still managing to give you the answers to P&J crossword.

I will ensure your kind comments are shared with the teams in ED, Stroke Ward and Ward 7, this will certainly be a boost for their morale.

Take Care

Kind regards

Diane
