"As a nurse who works at this hospital I..."

About: Lister Hospital

What I liked

Staff on the ward were helpful and friendly, they gave the support and breastfeeding advice I needed as a first time mum.

What could be improved

The medical team could improve on their communication skills and discuss with their patients the procedures they are about to carryout as I felt vulnerabe and uninformed.

The midwives could advocate more for the ladies they are caring for. Also it would be a a good idea to talk about pain relief options as patients arrive to the delivery site and for the midwives to offer analgesia on a regular basis.

Anything else?

I was left feeling traumatised following my sons delivery because I felt that the medical team didn't involve me in decisions made, I felt shocked and a complete loss of control. logo

We're sorry that your birthing experience wasn't as good as it should have been, which is why we're sure that the Trust's senior maternity team would welcome your feedback directly given that you say you're a nurse at the Lister.

As the team prepares to start its co-located consultant and midwife-led services in the Trust's new maternity unit at the Lister from October 2011, we know that your input would improve invaluable learning. You can either contact the head of midwifery directly yourself or drop us an e-mail to and we will make sure that you are contacted at a time to suit you.

Whatever you decide to do, we would like to thank you again for letting us know about your experience and also take this opportunity to wish you and your baby son the very best for the future.
