"Amazing skills and caring attitude"

About: Broadmoor Hospital

(as a service user),

Broadmoor obviously is not perfect but in relations to its role of dealing with the nations most disturbed individuals Broadmoor is world class.

Generally I feel safe and cared for. In this area there could be a few tweaks but the generality still stands.

My biggest criticism would be staffing level which are resulting in undue stress for staff and patients (due to not getting certain needs met). This stress causes staff to take more sick days and prolong patient recovery. trying to work with minimal staff is a false economy due to the cost of slowing down recovery and sick pay.

The amazing skills and caring attitude of really all staff make Broadmoor worthy of its world class reputation.

Advance directives could be encouraged more and give attention to ensuring that medication and side effects are kept to a minimum. Thank you Broadmoor for all your care.

Dear muscafn54.

Many thanks for your posting; it is good to know that as a patient you feel safe and cared for, that is really important to us.

In relation to staffing levels, we, and many other NHS Trusts, have felt the impact of national changes to nurse training and recruitment. However, we have never stood still and have a dedicated person working in conjunction with universities to assist, support and develop our recruitment procedures specifically for registered nurses. We have seen the benefits of this initiative specifically towards the end of 2017 when over 30 registered nurses joined the hospital. We will continue to work hard in this area and we expect the introduction of Nurse Associate training and the new nursing apprenticeship, nurse training pathways that the Trust is fully supportive of and actively leading on, will increase our workforce.

Our aim is to continually support the introduction of new staff in gaining the amazing skills you highlight and ensuring staff continue to support patients in all aspects of care including some of the points you made surrounding advanced directives and the side effects of medication.

Thank you once again for your feedback it is really helpful.
