"Unorganised, unprofessional"

I visited Mortimer Market Centre in February 2018 to have my 3rd dose of HPV vaccination and the nurse insisted that, based on the data shown in their system, it was my 2nd dose. However, I found the sms I had received from the clinic for my 2 previous vaccination appointments and she was convinced. I can't believe they didn't enter my 2nd dose in theri system.

Furthermore, last September I had an std check in the clinic and when I got the results via sms, the sms was saying "You are not immune to Hepatitis B". The same nurse that told me about the mix-up with the HPV doses also told me that, based on the data shown in their system, I am indeed immune to Hepatitis B (!) and I am not immune to Hepatitis A (!), so the nurse told me that the system showed the OPPOSITE of the sms text I had received!

Before the nurse administered the 3rd dose of HPV vaccination, she asked me whether I had any side effects from the previous 2 doses, I said that I noticed that after both doses my nose bled a bit, and then she started reading through the vaccination guidelines leaflet, trying to see whether nose bleeding was mentioned as one of the side effects: That didn't seem very professional, it was like a lay person, me, going through a medicine's guidelines. I wouldn't say that she inspired me confidence.

In the end, she did administer the 3rd dose and afterwards she put a plaster on. But when I looked at the plaster, I noticed that she had put it 2-3cm further down my arm, and not over the point where she had injected the vaccine, and I saw blood running from the pricked point. When the nurse noticed that, she took the plaster with her bare fingers (she had already removed the gloves!) from the wrong point and put it where she had actually injected the vaccine. Omg, I hope I didn't get an infection!

All in all, the experience was very unpleasant and unprofessional.

What you describe here sounds awful for you. I'm sorry that this happened. We wouldn't want anyone to feel this way and I'm concerned to read about the things you've mentioned. I would like to talk you if possible so we can look in to this further.

Please can you email me at: elizabeth.nelson-smith@nhs.net with your contact details and let me know when is a good time to call so I can phone you to talk about this?

Elizabeth Nelson-Smith

Interim Service Manager, Mortimer Market Centre
