"Broken ankle with surgery"

About: Royal Derby Hospital / Emergency department

On Thursday evening my 18 year old son was injured in a football match. A & E staff were amazing in particular the nurse who kept us informed and was very reassuring throughout. Each department worked quickly and professionally X-ray, plaster room, obs, canular etc. When it was decided that he would need surgery and therefore would need to be admitted the staff worked quickly to find him a bed and get him settled in as soon as possible. He was on the ward (204) at around 1.30 am but staff even checked whether he was hungry or needed something before he went nil by mouth for surgery the following day. I explained to staff that he had just turned 18 days before so I was a little anxious about leaving him alone for surgery but staff allowed me to sit in the comfortable day room and even offered me a cuppa whilst he went into theatre. He was discharged later on Friday evening. Feeling very grateful for the wonderful care and attention we were given. X

Good afternoon

It was very kind of you to take the time to write to the hospital. I am pleased to hear that you had a positive experience and that you wish to express your grateful thanks to the Emergency Department.

We will make sure your kind comments are passed on to the Manager responsible for the department to share with the relevant staff.

Thank you again for taking the time to send in your compliment. It is appreciated and we sincerely hope your son is continuing to improve.
