"A and E experience"

About: Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust / Liaison psychiatry Royal Oldham Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

After feeling Very low at Home for a number of days I prsented to a and e feeling suicidal due to lack of sleep from pain and problems suffering from poor mental heath for a number of years I understand my triggers and warning sign...once arrived I was told I had 2 options I could take some pain killers and try and get a sleep or go and sit in the waiting room on my own until they could deal with me! I chose pain relief after a number of hours a doctor came asked me my problem did some check and told me I was medically fit to go home even before being assessed by the raid team! ! I refused to leave because I felt I was a danger to myself if I was to go as I was so low and in so much pain I had stated I would rather be dead than in the pain...after raid came they did excellent found me a bed and since being admitted to the ward I feel safe and starting to feel comfy with the correct pain relief

Thanks for sharing this feedback. We're sorry to hear that you experienced this distress when presenting at A&E, we would really like to look into this issue and the services further for you. As A&E is provided by other NHS Trusts and as there are a number of services involved, we would advise speaking to our PALS team to give further info. They will be able to help you raise this so the feedback can be used to improve the service and experience for others in future.
