"Poorly 11 month old baby"

About: Berwick Infirmary / General medicine

(as a parent/guardian),

My son had a fit during the night due to his temperature peaking. This was a first for us as parents and was incredibly scary and traumatic.

I rang 111 who advised me to take him straight to our local hospital.

On arrival David answered the door and got us checked in. He was concerned we had been sent there as it wasn’t classed as A&E, as a doctor doesn’t work during the night. I explained what had happened and he took us to a bed and called for his assistant Nicola to come and help us.

They were happy to keep us in the hospital until the Doctor arrived a few hours later as my sons temperature had went down to normal. Not only did they make the best of a bad situation, they also gave me assistance as I am poorly myself. The staff you have in Berwick Infirmary as a whole are fantastic. Every experience I have had there are absolutely first class. Friendly, hardworking and go over and beyond to care for people’s needs.

When the doctor arrived, we found out my son had a urine infection which caused his temperature to increase. Antibiotics, paracetamol and ibuprofen later, we were allowed to go home. I just wanted to say thank you to David, Nicola, Susan and Dr Docherty for all their help keeping me at ease and their first class care.

Dear Berwick Mum,

It's a long time ago now, but I can still recall, as a young Mum, just how frightening it was to watch my baby become acutely unwell so rapidly as a result of infection. I'm so sorry you've been through the same thing with your son - you feel quite powerless in those moments don't you?

its lovely to hear that you got all the support you needed from kind, responsive and professional staff. It's especially kind of you to take the time to mention them all by name - it allows us to personally thank them when we share your review with our clinical teams. Your rating of Berwick infirmary as a provider of first class care means the world to us, thank you.

Glad your wee man was quickly on the mend.

with best wishes,

annie
