"My father"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Orthopaedics

(as a relative),

I recieved a phone call from my mum to let me know my dad had had a fall on the ice. A lovely man had come out of his house and told my mum what had happened and said he'd called an ambulance. My mother couldn't make it to my dad as the pavements were so icy. I drove to my mothers to pick up some clothes and drove to hospital. My dad had not long arrived and I was told by the staff I would get into see my dad once he'd been assessed. Unfortunately I had to leave so my brother waited and saw my dad in due course and went up to his room he had been given on the orthopedic ward. My dad was taken for surgery the next day to give him a new hip. All went well and the next day, my dad was able to get out of bed and to a chair. He was moved twice during his stay to make way for other emergencies but was kept informed at every stage. For what can be a busy time of the year the staff involved were great. The surgeon, doctors, nurses and everyone else who came into contact with my dad. There was many more. My dad got home  just 4 days after admission and is doing well under the watchful eye of my mum. Thanks to all staff involved with my dads care.

One thing that could be improved, in my dads words; more rice crispies!

Dear Thankfulmagdav

Many thanks for posting your very kind feedback on Care Opinion. It is great to hear that our staff did so well in looking after your dad after his fall. I hope he is continuing to make good progress at home. Orthopaedic trauma can be a very busy place, especially in winter with the icy roads and pavements, so it is good to know that staff continued to deliver a high standard of care. Thank you for your tolerance and understanding of our need to move patients to accommodate new emergencies.

The story of your dad’s care demonstrates what can be achieved with a truly multi-disciplinary approach. We hope to do the same for all our patients.

More rice crispies is an easy thing to fix. If any of your family is in hospital again, just ask them to say, “more please” and we will be happy to oblige!

Thank you again for taking the time to be so nice about our staff.

Kindest regards,
